"Well, after you scarfed up my mutton I had the irresistible urge to make pork chops for you." Seinfeld Southern Diner Heaven is my best description. You get the whole southern experience, from torrential downpour while waiting outside, to $5 breakfast specials that burst your belly, to Grannies southern staples. I did the pork chops, soooo good, but soooo bad, right? Carla did the pulled pork, Kai did fried chicken livers, others had liver & onions, plus Catfish. Choosing sides was FUN... 6 different breads (like biscuit, corn bread, hot rolls, bread pudding to name a few. How about 20+ veggies to choose from, potato cake, fried okra, corn, beets, the list is long! Little slow on the bill, but otherwise, great diner!

One of the Best, If not the Best, Place for Breakfast in Crystal River We've been coming to Crystal River for probably 18 years now and we introduced to Grannie's around 16 years ago. It has become a favorite. We were down last weekend for a wedding and had breakfast with Friends on Friday. Grannie's is one of their favorites as well. Always a busy place and parking can and is a problem but worth the hassle. Between the four of us, we had waffles, french toast, country fried steak with eggs and home fries and oatmeat with fruit. Varied but all were excellent and served within minutes. It's not fancy but food is good and service is excellent. Would recommend to anyone.

Don't judge a book by its cover...from the outside this place looked like nothing spectacular...a hole in the wall. On our first morning in Crystal River, we drove past and noticed the lot was full of cars. So we decided to eat there the next morning, when it was just as busy. It's a small place and it was a little crowded (a line grew out the door after we arrived), but the dining area was clean, the wait for our table was short, the staff were very friendly and very attentive (checking on us in a polite and unobtrusive manner no less than 5 times during our meal), the food was very good and served exactly as requested, and the prices were perfect for the budget conscious (three adult meals and one child meal for less than $30.00).

Great food great service Loved it and great price Breakfast is fantastic Options for everyone Kids loved it

Stopped in for breakfast while I had some visitors from out of town. The eggs were yellow, the bacon was crispy, and the potatoes were hairy (my wife and I found multiple hairs in our home fries). The legenday biscuits did not live up to the reputation (pilsbury is more enjoyable). On a more positive note, the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. I only wish the quality of the food was half the quality of the staff.

There is something very satisfying about a restaurant that delivers exactly what it should, no frills, no pretension. On a recent trip to Crystal River, my S.O. and I stopped in to Grannie's for a quick, filling breakfast. We both ordered bacon and eggs, home fries, grits, and bacon. We also received biscuits. Absolutely solid breakfast with great service and low cost. Doesn't get a whole lot better.

Wonderful and locally owned spot. Staff extremely friendly, I came in each morning before work and by day 3 I felt like a regular. This my "go to" breakfast spot. Biscuits and gravy are very good, served hot and creamy. Possibly the crispiest hash browns ever. In my opinion if a restaurant is locally owned and opens at 5am each day it has to be good!

Excellent diner food. Arrived around 1:30 PM and needed to wait for a table. Very crowded. Good portions. Obviously many regulars since staff were calling people by first names.

Good bang for your buck. Basic American food- a bit greasy, but huge portions. The cheeseburger was kind of dry, and fries were soaked in oil. I looked around, locals seemed to be enjoying their food.

We ate breakfast on Sunday here and this is a classic. Service was very good and the food was too. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the home fries were too. Friends had sausage biscuits and bisquits and gravy and were happy. We'll be back.

Awesome little spot! Great prices, friendly and fast service, amazing breakfast! I had the French toast and sausage links, my bf had the country fried steak, eggs over easy, hash browns and a pancake. It was all very, very good. We sat at the counter. It was 9:00ish on a Friday morning and all of the booth/table seats were taken. This was our last meal in Crystal River and we definitely left with a good taste in our mouths.

Wow! What a breakfast! I ordered 2 pancakes thinking it was going to be IHOP pancakes but it was 2 MASSIVE pancakes. The syrup has some sort of vanilla flavoring which is out of control. The grits taste like my grandma made them. This is home style cooking at its finest. HIGHLY recommended. My wife and I are like animals and spent just under $20.

Stopped in for breakfast around 9 on a Saturday and it was packed. With a party of 5 we were still able to be seated right as we walked in. Tracey was our waitress and she was extremely fast and welcoming. Our food was out within less than 5 minutes of ordering. It was all correct and delicious! The prices were very fair and the selection was vast. We'll definitely be returning the next time we're in town!

You can tell that Grannie's is a local favorite simply by the fact that the parking lot that is always full of cars with Florida license plates! It is definitely the place to go if you're looking for a simple, home-cooked, cheap, fast, and delicious breakfast. Don't let the full parking lot, little building, yellow sign, or line out the door deter you. Grannie's staff will treat you and feed you like family.

This place is awesome! The food is delicious and the prices are great. The restaurant is pretty small, but we didn't have to wait on the Saturday afternoon that we stopped by. Everyone who works there is very friendly and helpful. My friend and I both had the grilled cheese on Texas toast and I definitely recommend this. It was so good! They also serve breakfast all day, which is a plus!

This is one of our local best breakfast and lunch restaurants a lot of food for your money. There AUCE fish fry with all the fixings is a great price with good fish. Why your there check all the business ads on the ceiling tiles ;)
(4)Kelly P.
The smoked ham steak is the best I've ever had. Great food and the service is outstanding.
(5)Roman A.
I was looking for lunch breakfast with a few of my friends and was lucky to have found this place! The wait was about 15 min on a Sunday morning. The crowd seems to have mostly older people. Once we were seated the waitress immediately asked what we wanted to drink etc. The food was great and the price was on point. I used to love going to Cracker Barrel but that place is a joke compared to grannies. I can't wait to come back here!!!!
(5)Rick W.
Great food great prices friendly hard working staff... My only complaint is they were very busy, but i guess thats because they serve good food.
(5)Nick M.
The bacon egg and cheese biscuit was out of this world. If that doesn't fill your appetite the biscuits and gravy sure will.
(5)Justine L.
If you want a giant, cheap, southern breakfast this is your spot. We visited during Spring Break 2015 and it's an awesome place for families (singles and couples too!). The biscuits and gravy was thick (oh my goodness the half portion is HUGE!), the grits were super duper yummy, and the coffee was strong. The food came out so fast, my husband and I quipped that they must have a telepathic chef in the kitchen who must have known what we were going to order before we walked in. Chatting with a local couple next to us, we were told that Grannie's is famous locally for super fast service. Our family of five had eggs, bacon, pancakes, biscuits and gravy and omelettes and everything was what a good breakfast could be. T he only thing holding me back from a 5 star is they serve a butter spread on the table instead of real butter, and the omelettes needed to blotted down because of the grease. That said, those two things are right on par with this sort of joint and if you are staying in Crystal River from out of town this place is the move. Added bonus is it's literally a stone's throw from The Plantation Hotel and Spa.

Grannie's is so worth the wait if you have a wait! It's the BEST! They close early, so make sure you're there early. I've tried the country fried steak, catfish, burgers.... Everything is AMAZING! Staff wait on you & make you feel extremely welcomed & will recommend things for you to do if you're not familiar with the area. Must stop when visiting Homosassa!
(5)Ken M.
Hands-down the best fried chicken livers I've ever had. Most of my group was going for 2-egg lunches, but I'll rarely pass up chicken livers; these were top-notch. Rich, smooth, crispy on the outside, and not greasy --- what else could you want? The waitresses are appropriately snarky, and the linoleum is appropriately worn. Getting a table during the lunch rush isn't easy, though --- there's not much room for a line at the front, and everyone in line seems to have either an oxygen tank, crutches, a cast, a cane, a hyperactive kid, or some other queueing challenge. But stay mellow and a booth full of down-home cooking will soon be yours!
(5)Martin C.
Great food, terrific price and fast service. Paid $25 for breakfast for 4. Even my kids, who are fans of Cracker Barrell, rated this restaurant higher.
(5)Karen G.
Not horrible but definitely pretty awful. Nothing is very special; everything's pretty much straight ahead here. I'm not sure if anything is really homemade or fresh. Canned corned beef hash, biscuits aren't flaky or buttery...just doughy, very basic french toast, potatoes needed salt...lots of salt, flabby pancakes and weak coffee. Breakfast is kind of hard to mess up, but this place missed the mark for me. Wouldn't go here again.
(1)Brian A.
Good breakfast served quickly. Prices are unbelievably low! So good it draws a crowd, so go early.
(5)Erin L.
omg. amazing.
(5)Duncan M.
Grannies was busy, but we were seated quickly and treated to a very timely, tasty breakfast served with no fuss and a side order of humour. Will definitely visit again.
(5)Feren Y.
This is the first place I tried gritz! It is like porridge!! The staff were easy going and the place was bustling like crazy! What a wonderful breakfast, generous portions and great price! Try anything and everything! The locals seem to recommend and come to this place so it seems like is has been popular and consistent for some time.
(4)Barbara S.
Huge servings. Great comfort food. Homey atmosphere. Great prices. Go place to go when you are really hungry!
(4)Mike K.
If you are in to Southern cooking and large portions that your Grannies. Would make you then this is the place you had better put on the radar to visit. It truly took me back to my childhood with the first bite. The staff was very accommodating and made us feel like we were part of the family. We will defiantly be back.
(4)Kelly C.
You can't go to Crystal River without eating here!!! We had to go back a second day before we left because it was so good. The people are the most friendly around, the staff work together & are genuine. The food is incredible! They serve breakfast all day long. The first day we got our breakfast quick, the second day we got our breakfast in what seemed like seconds after we ordered. Portions are large, but the price isn't. I totally recommend this place!
(5)Matt P.
Had breakfast with my folks and daughters. Great prices and large portions. Best grits in town. Had the veggie omelet and a grilled chop. Nice omelet little to much cheese for my taste but not bad. Probably one of the best breakfast places in the area.
(4)Steve F.
Great service, great home style food, friendly staff. Food arrives hot and quickly.
(5)Katie T.
This was recommended to is by our Captain on our manatee tour as a great way to finish off some extensive scuba diving. And boy was he right! This may be the best country breakfast I've ever had. Ever. Cracker Barrel wishes they were Grannie's! The initial service on a busy morning is not the best first impression, but don't let it scare you away. You will leave full and satisfied and happy as a manatee!
(4)Don J.
Grannies is great for breakfast or lunch. They are open 5 AM to 3 PM daily. They have a good breakfast at a reasonable price. They have a lot of lunch specials but I always go for the burger. It is a fresh made to order burger with great flavor. They have been packed every time I have been in there but move table quickly.
(4)Katie W.
Your typical local breakfast with extremely great food and service... The grits and home fries are the best in town. The servers have great personalities and are spit fires... Shout out to Patti.. She's the best!
(5)Amber A.
Meh. Pretty good prices. The veg omelette featured canned mushrooms and American cheese, so food snobs beware. Great coffee! Pancakes were not worth ordering.
(3)Shari A.
We had breakfast here on a busy Sunday morning. The service was incredibly warm and friendly. The food was delicious, large portions, and impeccably priced. Of the other choices in the area, we definitely picked the right one.
(4)Katelyn B.
This place is always full of locals! It's definitely a favorite in town. Get there early or you will be waiting for a table. My in laws took me here for breakfast, the place is small and needs some modernizing but it was still cute. The service is fantastic for how busy they were. All of our food was top notch- they make breakfast divine! I always enjoy pancakes which you can't really do wrong but these are amazing. I wanted to go back the next day! The best part is the prices are very reasonable. For a tourist town, I was surprised how well priced they were. Remember to come early, seating and parking are limited! It's a must visit breakfast place if your in town. It is centrally located to all the hotels right off the main highway so you can't miss it!
(4)A Z.
Big portions and the pancake that came with my Bacon & Eggs meal was damn good. All around good breakfast with good orange juice (not that acidic minute maid crap you get so many other places) I guess this is part of a small chain, but not one I've ever heard of. The ads for local businesses are everywhere from the ceiling tiles to the giant sign at the cashier's podium and bit off-putting.
(4)Kristy B.
Great home town diner. The omelet and grits were great and the biscuits amazingly fluffy. My coffee never got cold and the service was so friendly.
(4)Amanda S.
Great home style cooking for a great price! First time there and we had a 1 year old. Staff was very friendly and very attentive. Great time, would visit again.
(4)Steve E.
Great breakfasts here! Order the ham steak and you will be very surprised. Very different spot, they offer a pancake instead of the usual toast or English muffin.
(4)KC s.
I always have to stop in here at Grannies when passing thru on 19 from Clearwater Beach heading north.... big portions, fair prices, friendly service and a large coffee to go no extra charge.... what more can one ask for? Ate here about 15 times over past decade - never disappointed. Long standing establishment.
(5)Mike S.
Part of a small chain, but with a home-cooking feel. Very popular with local folks who know southern home cooking but prefer to have someone else do the actual cooking. Big on breakfasts as noted by other reviewers, and all meals offer some sort of hog meat, preferably smoked. Prices are low, portions are large, seasoning is minimal, sauces come in plastic bottles labelled ketchup and mustard, service is quick and you get your money's worth of simple food.
(3)J B.
Great omelet - fast and friendly service. Reminds me of Mel's diner from the 80's sitcom Alice. Try it.
(3)Dan W.
The only place I go for breakfast in CR. Not outstanding, but reliable and filling.
(3)Mike S.
Good breakfast. Fast service, country home atmosphere. Not a fancy place, but no fancy prices either.
